Our Youth Outreach Program (YOP) conducts direct outreach to youth up to 18 years old throughout Hampton Roads, serving both Southside Hampton Roads and the Virginia Peninsula.
Youth Outreach Program includes Van Outreach, Safe Place services and Special Outreach Projects. The Youth Outreach Program offers onsite crisis counseling, crisis intervention, immediate access to emergency shelter for 9-17 year olds and intensive support services. In addition to these crisis services, our Van Outreach component provides food, clothing, hygiene items, and written information. Our youth education conducts prevention activities and includes topics of child abuse, substance abuse, human trafficking, homeless and runaway services, and community-based referrals, connecting to youthStreet_Outreach and their families to medical, mental health, substance abuse treatment, and family resources in the cities where they reside.
Each Youth Outreach Van is a mobile Safe Place Site and our trained Youth Outreach Counselors serve as the Emergency Response Team, responding 24 hours a day to youth in crisis who seek help during any Youth Outreach activity or contact Seton Youth Services through our 24-hour Hotline 757.498.HELP.
Special Outreach Projects are available to youth and adult audiences, where our staff are able to schedule informational presentations and conversations about any and all Seton Youth Services and Safe Place services.
Seton Youth Services is the only emergency youth shelter in Hampton Roads. For many years families who experience a homeless crisis have sought a safe haven for their children while they regain a new home for their family. Seton Youth Services provides that safe haven, meeting the all of youth’s basic needs, 24-hour staff supervision, parental access to maintain the parent-child relationship, facilitates continued education in the public schools, individual and family counseling and case management to assist the youth and parents connection to needed services.
Additional Street Outreach Crisis Intervention Services (accessed through our 24-hour Hotline) include intensive support for homeless families with children 9 up to 18 years old by offering transportation to our shelters for families who do not have transportation and seek a safe place for their children to stay while the parent secures new housing.
Safe Place Site
Youth need only to call our 24-hour Hotline 757.498.HELP or 1.866.751.7640 to get help fast. Through our hotline youth can talk with a trained residential counselor or arrange a safe place pick-up to our shelters instead of trying to survive on the streets.
Seton Youth Services is a licensed Safe Place Agency, securing affiliation with the National Safe Place Organization, headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky. Safe Place is a national youth outreach program that educates thousands of young people every year about the dangers of running away or trying to resolve difficult, threatening situations on their own. This community initiative involves the whole community to provide safe havens and resources for youth in crisis.
Safe Place creates a network of “Safe Place” locations–youth friendly businesses, schools, fire stations, libraries, YMCAs and other appropriate public buildings that display the distinctive yellow and black Safe Place sign. These Safe Place sites extend the doors of the youth emergency shelter or youth service agency throughout the community. Youth are easily able to access immediate help wherever they are.
Seton Youth Services operates a 24-Hour Hotline (757.498.HELP), where youth in crisis can talk directly with our Residential Counselors. The same 24-Hour Hotline serves as the point of contact to access Safe Place Services 24 hours a day. Our Street Outreach staff serves as Safe Place’s Emergency Response Teams during street outreach hours of operation. Trained Staff and Volunteers serve on Emergency Response Teams for after-hours crises. All staff and volunteers undergo required background checks to work with children in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
